Celebration of the 20th anniversary of the association “Steine der Erinnerung” (Stones of Remembrance)

On November 14, 2025, we celebrated in the Coat of Arms Hall of Vienna City Hall. We are grateful to the City of Vienna for providing us with this dignified setting. Many friends, supporters, political representatives, and interested people who know us and wanted to get to know us were in attendance. The theme of the evening was the numerous connections around the world.

The musical accompaniment was provided by the group Avanim, consisting of Daliah Hindler, Christoph Kögler and his son Felix, Agnes Riha, Alfred Stütz, and Karin Waniek.

Roswitha Hammer opens the celebration with her welcome speech and hosts the evening.

Daliah Hindler, Vally Steiner, and Ernst Fitzka present highlights from twenty years—moments that have shaped the project.

Daliah Hindler, daughter of founder Liesl Ben David-Hindler, recounts the early days of the association.

Ernst Fitzka recounts special collaborations spanning over twenty years. Vally Steiner reports on the development of the project in the 2nd district.

In her laudatory speech, Prof. Hannah Lessing,
Chairwoman of the National Fund, emphasizes:

“It is a remarkable example of how much good a small group of people can achieve in Austria’s memorial landscape with tremendous personal commitment and perseverance.”

In her speech, Mag. Veronika Kaup-Hasler, City Councilor for Culture and Science, talks about how the Stones of Remembrance have changed public space in Vienna.

We receive a video message from Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen. He sees the impact of the project in the fact that the indescribable becomes tangible and history becomes personal.
