Unveiling of Stones of Remembrance on May 20, 2014 as a part of the 6th Baranka Park commemoration celebration

The celebration was opened by a children’s choir, consisting of about 50 pupils of Volksschule Berhardtstalgasse in Favoriten. Marion Dworzack then thanked Elisabeth Ben David Hindler and Karl Jindrich (Association Stones of Remembrance) for their extraordinary commitment, and made them honorary members of the association “Voice of Diversity“.

The commemoration Stones were then solemnly unveiled.

Elisabeth Ben David Hindler spoke about the meaning of the Stones. They are symbolic flowers for the Roma people who had camped here, on former Hellerwiese, and were then deported.

In a very touching spontaneous action, the children read out the names of the deported Roma.

The following festive programme presented musical performances (Gebrüder Ullrich, Timna Brauer & Elias Meiri Ensemble, Hari Stojka with Gitancoeur d´ Europe) and a reading from Mongo Stojka’s literary work “Die Erinnerungen“.
