Ceremonial opening of four ‘Stations of Remembrance’ in Alsergrund and one station in Josefstadt on 6 June 2024
Inauguration of 4 Stations in the 9th district and one Station of Remembrance in the 8th district.
The group Avanim, comprising Daliah Hindler, Heidelinde Gratzl, Agnes Riha and Karin Waniek, will showcase the event with the songs ‘Eli’, ‘ Volt ikh gehat koyekh’ and ‘Tumbalalaika’.
Mrs Hammer welcomes those present and introduces all the relatives and initiators of today’s stones as well as the ‘Stones of Remembrance’ association.
Afterwards, both Head of the district Saya Ahmad for the 9th district and Martin Fabisch for the 8th district, address welcoming words to the guests.
Alserstraße 53:
Stone for Jenny, Gerda and Alfred Kürti
The station was created at the request of Benni Haspel from Israel on behalf of the Kurti family from Great Britain and Australia and honours their grandparents.
In addition to Benni Haspel, we would like to welcome Linda and Richard Kurti with their son Hugo from England and Susanne Zabehlicky-Scheffenegger from Vienna.
Unfortunately, the branch of the family from Australia (Peter Kurti) was unable to take part.

Lichtensteinstraße 53-55:
Stone for Gisela Kranz
The initiative goes back to the Mitterlechner family. It commemorates the grandmother’s former employer. Mr Mitterlechner recounts his childhood memories of Mrs Kranz, whom he visited there as a small child.

Stone for the former residents Emilie Priester and Paul Riemer
Ms Linda Wagner researched the expulsion and murder of the residents of Porzellangasse 41 for an artistic project. She talks very vividly about the harrowing results of her research.

Stone for Elsa and Sigmund Neumann
The initiative to lay the stone for their grandparents came from Ralph Weil from Canada. Unfortunately, neither he nor his relatives from Israel can be present.
